But not many people know about how big the Community of Madrid is.

The country of Spain has seven communities, and the Community of Madrid is one of them. It’s located in the center of the country and the city of Madrid is the capital of the community (also the capital city of the country). It has over 6 million people, and it’s the most densely populated part of the country.

When traveling to the Spanish capital, renting an apartment in the center of Madrid is the best choice you can make. The center of the city is the historic center and the place where you will spend most of the time when sightseeing. Also, it’s a perfect transit if you want to discover more of the community of Madrid, as most metro lines and buses have stops in the center of the city. This enables you to easily change routes and in essence to conveniently arrive at any destination around the city.

Here are a couple of places you can visit in the community of Madrid as you explore life outside the city center.

Alcalá de Henares - A historic town located 35 kilometers from Madrid. It has great historical importance. It was populated since Roman times, and it’s actually the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes.

Aranjuez - It’s a town in the south of Madrid. It’s by the river with ornamental gardens with a Royal Palace. Its cultural landscape is declared a World Heritage Site in 2001.

San Lorenzo de El Escorial - Also a part of the community of Madrid, San Lorenzo de El Escorial has two large architectural complexes that had great importance in the life of the royals in the past, with a monastery, royal courtyard, the Palace of Philip II, etc.

Chinchón - Here’s another small town with culture and history that are very much important piece of national heritage. A medieval castle and picturesque landscape are what you can expect to see as you explore this small town near Madrid.

Toledo - This place offers a unique blend of Jews, Muslims, and Christians, three cultures that shaped its architectural and cultural landscape. Built on the foundation of diversity, the city is another part of the Community of Madrid you could visit.

 

All of these towns are between 30 to 50 kilometers distance from the historical center. That’s why finding an apartment in the center of Madrid is such a convenient option for travelers. You’ll find it easy to find the transport that will take you to any of these destinations. Usually, most of them can be reached within an hour or an hour and a half, depending on the type of transport you choose.
