Garden in Madrid

GARDEN OF THE PRINCE OF ANGLONA - JARDÍN DEL PRÍNCIPE DE ANGLONA

Even though its appearance from the outside leaves you indifferent because of the great walls covered in leaves, this garden is a true oasis from the inside. Located in the  Madrid de los Asturias zone, it spreads on 500 squares meters and was built in 18th century as nobiliary garden, next to Palace del Príncipe de Anglona. The garden and the palace were named after its famous habitant Pedro de Alcántara Téllez-Girón y Pimentel, the prince of Angola and a member of House of Osuna  (Casa de Osuna).

The garden was made in neoclassicism style and it served as a place for rest and recreation. Its interior is well geometrically structured and consists of two fountains, two pergolas covered in roses, summer house and a roundabout. Its interior has some special, romantic note because of secrecy which comes from the high trees combined with French garden on the ground. Due to the great unevenness between the Segovia Street and La plaza de la Paja, the Garden of the Prince of Anglona with its high walls can be seen as a “hanging” garden above the Segovia Street.

CAPRICHO PARK

The Capricho Park is located in Alameda de Osuna and was created in 1784 by Dukes of Osuna and especially by doña María Josefa de la Soledad Alonso Pimentel.  She was a protector of many artists and intellectuals of that epoch who visited and worked in the garden. After her death, the garden was abandoned practically until the Municipality of Madrid started its restoration in 1974 which was finished in 1999.

The park is one of the most beautiful parks in Madrid, although not that famous. During the Civil War in Spain, there was a bunker of 2000 square meters and 15 meters under the ground. It was built around 1937 and had advantages such as distance from the war, good communication, and trees which served as camouflage.  The mere garden has three different styles: French garden, Italian garden, and the English landscape. There is a labyrinth inside. With lots of trees, the park is a perfect place to hide from the sun in summer and. In general, the park is a wonderful site with beautiful nature inviting you to take long strolls and enjoy.

THE ENCHANTED FOREST IN SAN MARTÍN DE VALDEIGLESIAS – EL BOSQUE ENCANTADO

As a unique botanic garden in Europe and a park of vegetable sculptures, The Chanted Forest is situated 60 kilometers from Madrid. It was created by the efforts of Juan Antonio Pizarraya who got the idea, found the adequate place and made his dream real. In the forest, there are 500 different trees. One special zone is dedicated to bonsai and cactus. The sculptures are organized thematically, for example, there is the Prehistoric route, Jungle route… There are also mazes, waterfalls, gazers… The relaxing music is present all the way creating the atmosphere of a mystic place.  There are 8 persons who take care of the trees each day. It is necessary to cut the trees every week in order to maintain their shape.

Regardless of which one you choose to visit, one thing is for sure - you'll truly enjoy these green breathtaking corners of Madrid.
